It’s been quite a while since Windsor’s only bragging points were its Eastman Kodak plant and its central location as a bedroom community for Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley.

‘Northern Gateway’ builds on its strengths

 

A recent study from SmartAsset ranked the city that bills itself as “Colorado’s Northern Gateway” the 10th most affordable place to live in Colorado. While many of its residents commute to Fort Collins to work or study, Wellington has been taking steps to become a destination in its own right.

The website of a northwest Denver suburb states its advantages succinctly: “Smack dab between Denver and Boulder, Westminster has prime proximity to both the exceptional intellectual capital available in Boulder, as well as the incredible millennial workforce in the Denver metro area. Plus we’re right in the heart of the U.S. 36 Tech Corridor connecting Denver to Boulder.

With easy proximity to Boulder, Denver and the mountains, residents and businesses looking to relocate would be hard-pressed to find a place superior to Superior.

Along with the growth has come numerous new businesses that seized on competitively priced commercially zoned land, including bars and restaurants, personal service shops and salons, retail stores, a bank, self-storage, child day care and more.

Could the founders of a trading post catering to a railroad and an agricultural economy have ever envisioned that in 2025 the community would be known for an award-winning skate park, a “marijuana church” and a key location on a burgeoning urban corridor?

After a half-decade of work, construction is finally underway in Louisville on a 2.5-million-square-foot biotechnology- and healthcare-centric business park on the empty, 389-acre Redtail Ridge property, which was previously home to a massive Storage Technology Corp. campus.
