Big changes in store for Weld’s largest city
Momentous events continue to shape the news in Greeley, from the steps the city and county went through to lay the groundwork for a new downtown civic plaza to the continuing controversy over development on the city’s western edge, labor disputes at one of the city’s largest employers and the debut of an exciting new offering at the University of Northern Colorado.
Carbon Valley town ‘built on what matters’
A $261 million energy-storage project broke ground early this year. Spindle Energy Center will be a 199-megawatt energy storage system made up of two-hour Tesla batteries, a grid-scale system, and will store up to 398 MW hours of dispatchable power, according to a news release from the system’s owner, San Francisco-based Clearway Energy Group. It will be located directly west of the Spindle Hill Energy Center, a natural gas power plant that began in 2007 under different ownership two miles east of town off of Weld County Road 19 north of County Road 14.
